Main Assembly Steps

Follow these steps in order. The videos above show the exact process for your model.

1

Choose: Training Wheels OR Kickstand

WARNING: The inner hex nut which holds the rear wheel on should not be removed or loosened while installing the training wheels.

OPTION A: Training Wheels (All Sizes)

  1. Begin on one side of the frame. Remove only the outer locknut and set it aside.
  2. Locate the square alignment tab and position it so the notch fits into the frame slot.
  3. Place the training wheel leg onto the axle.
  4. Reattach the outer locknut and tighten firmly with a wrench.
  5. Repeat for the other side.

Initial Height Setting: Training wheels should be 1/4" off the ground on both sides. Raise them gradually as your child gains balance.

OPTION B: Kickstand (16", 18" Models Only)

  1. Locate the rear left axle. Remove nut cap (if installed), then outer locknut.
  2. Remove the inner hex nut (use firm pressure, it is tight).
  3. Align the kickstand bracket with the axle and slide the bracket hole onto the rear axle.
  4. Reinstall the inner hex nut and outer locknut. Tighten all nuts securely with a wrench.
  5. Test that the kickstand moves freely and supports the bike.
Check: Training wheels must be the same height and point straight down. Kickstand must hold the bike upright without slipping.
2

Front Wheel Installation

WARNING: Be sure the tire bead is evenly seated on both sides before inflation. Failure can cause the tube to pop and loss of control.
  1. Check Tire Direction: Look for an arrow on the tire sidewall. If present, install the wheel so the arrow points forward.
  2. Loosen or remove the axle nuts and washers from the front wheel.
  3. Place the front wheel into the fork, ensuring it is completely seated and even.
  4. Place the wheel retaining washers onto the axle. Ensure the tabs on the washers face the fork and fit into the small holes on the fork.
  5. Tighten the axle nuts securely using a wrench.
Check: Squeeze the front brake lever (if equipped) or push the bike forward and apply the coaster brake. The wheel should not wobble side-to-side.
3

Handlebar & Stem Assembly

  1. Loosen the stem bolt slightly to remove the plastic shipping cap from the bottom of the stem.
  2. Remove the plastic shipping cap.
  3. Insert the stem and handlebar assembly into the fork, ensuring the stem wedge is loose.
  4. Make sure the stem is pointing toward the front of the bike.
  5. Tighten the stem bolt with a wrench, ensuring the stem is aligned with the front tire.
  6. Loosen the front bolt of the stem to adjust the handlebar angle to the desired position.
  7. Tighten the front bolt of the stem, ensuring the handlebar is centered.

Testing: Straddle the front wheel and try to turn the handlebar. It should not slip. Also try to move the ends of the handlebar up/down and forward/back. It must not move.

Check: The stem protecting cap (Part 5) must be placed over the connection point between stem and handlebar.
4

Pedal Installation

WARNING: Attachment of an incorrect pedal will cause irreparable damage. The pedal shoulder must be in complete contact with the crank arm. Pedal may back out causing serious injury if not tight.
  1. Identify the right pedal (marked "R") and left pedal (marked "L").
  2. Right pedal (R): Has right-hand threads. Tighten clockwise.
  3. Left pedal (L): Has left-hand threads. Tighten counterclockwise.
  4. Place the pedal into the crank and finger-tighten first.
  5. Use a wrench to snug both pedals down securely.
  6. Check the crank bolts and re-check after the first ride.
Check: Pedals must be tight. Re-check before every ride for the first week.
5

Seat Installation & Height Adjustment

WARNING: The seatpost must be inserted far enough so that the minimum insertion marks cannot be seen.
  1. Hold the quick release lever in the "open" position.
  2. While holding the lever open, tighten the nut on the opposite side by hand.
  3. Slowly begin to close the quick release lever.
  4. You should notice resistance when the lever is approximately halfway closed.
  5. Firmly continue to push the lever until it is fully in the "closed" position.
  6. Test the seat by trying to move it back and forth. It should not move.
  7. Check that the lever is parallel with the seat clamp.
Check: Seat must be set so your child's feet can touch the ground flatly when seated. Minimum insertion mark must be hidden.
6

Tire Inflation

WARNING: Never exceed the maximum pressure (PSI) listed on the tire sidewall. Check that the tire bead is evenly seated all around before inflating.
  1. Use a hand pump, foot pump, or floor pump.
  2. Check the tire sidewall for the maximum PSI rating.
  3. If your pump lacks a gauge, use a separate pressure gauge.
  4. Inflate to the recommended pressure.
Check: Visually confirm the tire bead is seated evenly on both sides. Press the tire sidewall—it should feel firm, not soft.
7

Brake Setup & Adjustment

Coaster Brake (All Sizes):

  • Operate by pushing the pedals backward. Braking force increases with backward pedal pressure.
  • Always use the coaster brake as the main stopping brake.

Caliper Brake (18" Model Only):

  1. Position Brake Shoes: Loosen each brake shoe screw. Adjust each shoe so it is flat against the rim and aligned with the rim curve. Ensure shoes do not rub the tire. If arrows are present, point them toward the rear. Tighten screws.
  2. Test Tightness: Try to move each brake shoe. If it moves, re-tighten the screw more firmly. Repeat until secure.
  3. Cable Adjustment: Loosen cable nut. Insert cable barrel into brake lever. Insert brake cable into groove. Squeeze brake arms so pads are against rim. Pull cable tight and tighten cable nut. Adjust for 1/16" (1.5mm) pad clearance. Ensure brake lever is not loose.
Check: For caliper brake: Squeeze lever—brake pads should engage the rim evenly. For coaster brake: Push pedals backward—bike should stop smoothly.
8

Reflectors & Accessories

Front Reflector (Handlebar):

  1. Remove clamp screw from reflector bracket.
  2. Open bracket loop and slide over handlebar tube between grip and crossbar (~5" from end).
  3. Tighten clamp screw securely.

Rear Reflector (Seat Post):

  1. Remove clamp screw from reflector bracket.
  2. Open bracket loop and slide over seat post.
  3. Tighten clamp screw securely.

Streamers: Insert fully into holes at ends of handlebar grips.

Stem Cap: Place white plastic cap over stem/handlebar connection.

Basket:

  1. Attach supporting metal bar to the fork securely.
  2. Fasten basket to supporting bar (bottom) and to horizontal bar on stem using screws.

Bell:

  1. Remove clamp screw from bell bracket.
  2. Open bracket loop and slide over handlebar tube.
  3. Tighten clamp screw securely.
Check: All accessories should be firmly attached. Streamers must be fully inserted. Basket must be level and secure.

Critical Adjustments After Assembly

1

Seat Height

Set the seat height so your child's feet can touch the ground flatly when seated. Use the quick release lever to adjust. Always ensure the minimum insertion mark is hidden inside the frame.

2

Handlebar Angle

Loosen the front stem bolt to adjust the handlebar angle to a comfortable position for your child. Tighten securely and re-test for tightness (see Step 3 in Assembly).

3

Brake Check (18" Model)

After the first ride, re-check the caliper brake pad alignment and cable tension. Pads should be 1/16" (1.5mm) from the rim when lever is released.

4

Training Wheel Height

Start with training wheels 1/4" off the ground. As your child balances, raise them slightly (by loosening outer axle nut and sliding arm up) to encourage balancing. Always re-tighten nuts securely after adjustment.
