Quick Summary

The Bicystar KB-BL05 is a 14"/16" balance bike designed for children ages 3–8. It features air tires and an adjustable seat ranging. Assembly covers four main steps: assembling the fork into the frame, installing the handlebar, attaching both wheels, and fitting the seat post.

The front and rear wheels are identical, so the same installation method applies to both. Most parents complete the full assembly in under 20 minutes using only the included tools.

Watch the video below before you begin — it covers every step including seat height adjustment. If any part does not fit or feels wrong, stop and re-check alignment before applying force. The PDF manual and support email are available at the bottom of this page.

Assembly Steps

Follow these 4 steps in order. Each step matches the assembly video and the model-specific PDF manual.

1

Assemble the Fork and Frame

The bushings must be fully seated inside the head tube before you insert the fork. Skipping this will prevent the fork from turning correctly once assembled.

  1. Slide the stem spacer (H) down over the top end of the fork steerer tube.
  2. Insert both bushings (F) into the top and bottom openings of the head tube on the frame.
  3. Insert the fork up through the bottom of the head tube until the steerer tube protrudes through the top.
Check: The fork should rotate smoothly inside the head tube with no stiffness or grinding. If it feels tight, remove the fork and re-seat the bushings before reinserting.
2

Install the Handlebar

  1. Slide the headset (G) down over the fork steerer tube, on top of the head tube.
  2. Slide the stem clamp (I) down over the fork steerer tube, on top of the headset.
  3. Insert the handlebar into the fork steerer tube at least 2 inches deep.
  4. Align the handlebar so it is straight and centered with the front fork.
  5. Fasten the stem clamp screw by turning it clockwise until the handlebar is held firmly in place.
Check: The handlebar should not rotate, tilt, or pull upward when tested. The minimum insertion depth mark on the handlebar stem must not be visible above the clamp.
3

Attach the Wheels

Important: The front and rear wheels are identical — either wheel can be used on either end. The installation method is the same for both.

Front Wheel

  1. Remove the axle bolts and retention devices from the front wheel.
  2. Insert the wheel axle between the fork tubes so the axle fits into the slots at the end of the fork blades.
  3. Install the axle retention devices on each side of the axle. Make sure the hook part of each retention device fits correctly into the hole in the fork tube.
  4. Install the axle bolts on each side.
  5. Use the adjustable wrench to tighten both axle bolts securely.
Check: The wheel should spin freely with no side-to-side wobble. Both retention device hooks must be fully seated in the fork holes before tightening the bolts.

Rear Wheel

  1. Install the rear wheel using the same steps as the front wheel.
  2. Confirm both axle bolts are tightened and both retention device hooks are seated correctly.
Check: Spin both wheels by hand. Each should spin freely and feel equally secure. If either wobbles side to side, re-check the axle alignment and tighten the bolts evenly.
4

Install the Seat

Set the seat height before locking the clamp.

  1. Insert the seat post into the seat tube on the frame.
  2. Slide the post to the correct height for your child. See the Seat Height Guide below.
  3. Fasten the seat clamp by turning the screw clockwise until snug.
  4. Press the lever firmly down to lock the seat post in place.
Check: The seat should not twist, tilt, or slide up or down when you apply pressure. If it moves, re-tighten the clamp screw and press the lever down again.

Seat Height Guide

Getting the seat height right before the first ride makes a real difference. A correctly set seat lets your child push off the ground comfortably and build balance and confidence naturally.

How to Find the Right Seat Height

When your child sits on the seat, they should be able to place both feet fully flat on the ground with a slight bend at the knee. This bend gives them the push-off control they need to walk, run, and eventually glide.

Set the seat 0.5" to 1" below your child's inseam measurement. This produces the optimal knee bend for balance bike riding.

FAQ

What is the difference between the KB-BL05 and the KB-BL04?
The KB-BL05 uses a headset (Part G) and a single stem spacer (Part H) in the fork assembly. The KB-BL04 uses two stem spacers and no headset. The KB-BL05 also has a slightly taller seat range (14"–21" vs 13"–21") and a taller handlebar height (25"–27" vs 21.6"–24"), making it better suited for taller children in the 3–6 age range.
What order do the headset and stem clamp go on the fork?
After inserting the fork through the head tube, slide the headset (G) onto the steerer tube first, then slide the stem clamp (I) on top of the headset. The handlebar then inserts into the top of the fork steerer tube. Do not place the stem clamp before the headset — the steer assembly will not sit correctly.
How deep does the handlebar need to be inserted?
The handlebar must be inserted at least 2 inches deep into the fork steerer tube. A minimum insertion depth mark is printed on the handlebar stem. That mark must not be visible above the stem clamp when assembled. Do not ride the bike if the mark is showing.
Are the front and rear wheels different?
No. The front and rear wheels on the KB-BL05 are identical. The same installation method applies to both and either wheel can be used on either end of the bike.
What does the retention device do and how do I install it correctly?
The retention device holds the wheel axle securely inside the fork blade slot. The hook part of each retention device must fit into the small hole on each side of the fork tube. If the hooks are not seated in those holes, the axle can slip during riding. Always confirm both hooks are engaged before tightening the axle bolts.
What is the correct seat height for my child?
Set the seat 0.5" to 1" below your child's inseam measurement. This lets them sit with both feet flat on the ground and a slight bend at the knee. The KB-BL05 seat adjusts between 14" and 21". See the Seat Height Guide section above for a full breakdown and reference table.
How much of the seat post needs to stay inside the frame?
At least 2.5 inches of the seat post must remain inside the frame at all times. The minimum insertion depth mark on the seat post must never be visible above the seat clamp. Raising the seat above this mark is a safety risk and should be avoided.
Do the tires need to be inflated before the first ride?
Yes. The KB-BL05 uses air tires. Check the recommended tire pressure printed on the tire sidewall before the first ride. Use a standard bike pump with a Schrader valve. Under-inflated tires make balancing harder and reduce control for young riders.
What should I do if a part is missing or damaged?
Stop assembly and contact support at anita@bicystar.com. Include your model number (KB-BL05), your shipping address, and a photo or short video of the issue so the team can help you faster. You can also browse available replacement parts directly.
